Q. How do I book?
A. You can book online from our website, send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call on +44 (0) 1809 501412.
> Peak (Easter to October) – you can book online up to 6pm on the day you arrive or call us on the day. Even if you don’t have a booking we may still have beds available, so please call in.
> Off peak (December to Easter) – please book online or call us at least the day before to let us know you are coming and we will be here to welcome you. You cannot book online on the same day in our off peak season. If you call in without a booking we are sorry but it is possible that we may not be here.
Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. We accept cash, debit and credit cards (except American Express).
Q. Do you take a deposit?
A. The price of your first night’s stay is payable at the time of booking to confirm your reservation. The balance is payable on arrival. There is no booking fee.
Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. Debit and credit card details are taken for security when you book and may be charged for cancellations or no-shows.
> If you cancel your booking more than 48 hours in advance you will be charged 20% of the booking. If this is less than your first night’s stay we will refund you the difference.
> If you cancel within 48 hours you will be charged for your first night’s stay (there will be no refund on the deposit already paid).
> If you don’t show up, the balance of the first two night’s stay will be charged to the debit or credit card used to make the booking (if your booking was for more than one night).
Q. What time can I check–in?
A. You can check-in between 4.30pm and 10pm.
Q. What time do I need to check-out?
A. Check-out time is before 10am.
Q. Is the hostel closed during the day?
A. The hostel is completely closed between 11am and 4pm. We start cleaning at 10am. Guests who are with us for more than one night may stay in the hostel until 11am.
Q. How do I book the whole hostel?
A. Please call or email us to discuss your requirements. A deposit of 20% of the total price is payable at the time of booking to confirm your reservation. The balance is payable 4 weeks before arrival.
Q. Do you have single-gender dorms?
A. No, both our dorms are mixed gender.
Q. We are travelling with our children. Can we stay at the hostel?
A. Yes, young people are welcome to stay at Saddle Mountain Hostel. We wish to provide safe and appropriate accommodation for all our guests so please read the information below before you book. If you do not comply with these restrictions we reserve the right not to honour your booking.
> Any guest under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
> We have three private rooms which are suitable for families and groups with young people under the age of 16.
> Young people under the age of 16 are not allowed to stay in our dormitory rooms unless all of the 6 beds in the dormitory room are booked by the family or group.
> 16 and 17 year olds may stay in our dormitory rooms if accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
Q. Do you accept stag and hen parties?
A. No, we do not accept stag and hen parties at the hostel. If you do not comply with this we reserve the right not to honour your booking.
Q. Is there a cash machine in Invergarry?
A. No, the nearest cash machine is in Fort Augustus.
Q. Where can I buy food to cook at the hostel?
A. Glengarry petrol station in Invergarry has a small shop selling basic supplies. You’ll find small shops in the other villages along the Great Glen too. There are larger supermarkets in Fort William, Inverness and on the Isle of Skye.
Q. I don’t want to cook. Where can I eat out?
A. There are several options for eating out.
> The Invergarry Hotel serves meals all year round and is within walking distance of the hostel. You are advised to book ahead by calling +44 (0) 1809 501412.
> The Glengarry Castle Hotel, also in Invergarry, is also open to non-residents for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
> The Great Glen Water Park, a few miles south of the hostel, has a bar and restaurant.
> The Eagle Barge Inn, a floating restaurant, is located at Laggan Locks a few miles south of the hostel and has bar meals and an evening menu.
> Fort Augustus, seven miles north of the hostel, has pubs, hotels and a fish & chips shop.
Q. Can I bring my dog?
A. We do not allow dogs, other than assistance dogs, to stay inside the hostel. If you are visiting with an assistance dog we would be grateful if you could let us know before arrival.
Q. Can I smoke at the hostel?
A. Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the hostel. You can smoke outside but away from the hostel doors and windows. We have provided an ashtray for your cigarette ends. We do not allow the use of E-cigarettes inside the hostel.
Q. Why are you called Saddle Mountain Hostel?
A. We love walking in the mountains. We also love cycling. Mountains have saddles. So do bikes. That’s why!
