Happy New Year

The New Year is fast approaching. We had fun catching up with family and friends over Christmas but it already seems like a distant memory. It‘s our first Hogmanay in our new home and we’re expecting it might be a bit different, not least because we’re “working”! We’ll be up until midnight, though, to see in the New Year.

We are looking forward to 2016. It’s going to be another busy year for us. Our main project is building a new drying room and sauna. We are working with local architects in Fort William to design an extension at the back of the hostel to replace the conservatory that currently serves as our drying room and a friend is helping us with the sauna. Once we have planning permission, we hope to have both drying room and sauna ready in time for the 2016 winter season.  You can keep up-to-date with progress on our website and Facebook page.

We’ve also got lots of work to do in the garden. Creating a new water feature wasn’t ever on our list of things to do. That was before all the rain in November and December, a “pop-up” duck pond instead of a road and a man with a digger! We now have a small stream running through the bottom garden at the hostel to our real pond. Needless to say, there’s going to be a bit of landscaping required! As it seems we’ll be spending a lot of time outside, let’s hope 2016 is drier and that Van Helsing, the midge hunter, is on top form!

Our plans for next year also include some interior decorating in the hostel and setting up an improved online gallery for our website. You’ll be able to see photos of the hostel (something our guests have been asking for) as well as lots of pictures showcasing the great things to do in the area.

And if we have any time left, we’re keen to get out and climb some hills on foot and on our bikes!

We’d like to wish you a happy New Year and we hope to see you at Saddle Mountain Hostel in 2016.
