Saddle Mountain Hostel Invergarry

Open For Business

It’s been a hectic few days getting the hostel and our website ready for our launch on Thursday 21st May.

Even with help from Helen’s brother David, Greg’s cousin Shona and our friend Neil, it’s been a race against time!  But, we’re really pleased with how it’s taken shape.

The old signs on the outside of the building have been taken down and the new ones installed.  You can see our red and white mountain logo from the road and closer up you can see the “whompass” and “refuge” signs.  Along with the new look room names on the doors, it’s starting to feel like our hostel.

The existing lounge carpet and furniture have gone.  They’ve been replaced with new carpet tiles, sofas, armchairs, cushions and curtains.  We’ve added a large flat screen television and a music centre for guests to play their own tunes.

There is new flooring in the dining room.  A welcome upgrade to the 1970s carpet which we think may have been an original feature!  Pride of place goes to our new Espresso Hub which has been set up in the corner of the dining room.  Our shiny new machine is eagerly awaiting its first proper use.  And don’t worry, there’s still plenty of space for everyone to eat at the same time!

Saddle Mountain Hostel Planning CornerOur Planning Corner, which is not actually in a corner but we liked the name, has been put together in the reception area of the hostel.  We hope our guests will enjoy browsing through our guidebooks and maps from the comfort of a sofa.

The final touch has been hanging our pictures on the walls of the hostel.  We’re going to add the location of each photo just in case we’re not around to explain where it was taken or the story behind it.

We have plenty more ideas for things we would like to do but that’s enough for now.  We’d also like to ask our guests’ opinions too.

So, with the preparation and cleaning done, there’s just time for a celebratory drink before we open our doors as Saddle Mountain Hostel.

A big thanks to everyone who’s helped us out.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

We’d also like to wish Matt and Jenny, the former hostel owners, every success in their new venture at the Salwey Arms in Shropshire.
