We’re very excited to let you know that the new drying room project that we’ve been planning since we took over the hostel has started.  Our builders arrived on site at the end of September and will be working with us over the next few months to turn our plans into reality.

We’ve put together these FAQs to tell you about the project and staying with us while it’s happening. We hope you find them useful and if your question isn’t answered please get in touch with us.

Keep an eye out on our Blog and our Facebook page for the latest news and check out our Gallery for before, during and after photos.

Q. What’s happening?

A. We are replacing the conservatory at the back of the building which has been used as our drying room with a purpose built drying room extension. The majority of the work will be outside the main hostel building but there are some internal changes too, affecting one of our bedrooms and the old bathroom.

> Drying room – a new drying room with pitched roof will be erected at the back of the hostel.  It will have external and internal entrances so once you’ve hung your wet outdoor gear up you can come into the hostel without having to go back outside.  To help dry your gear there will be underfloor heating, wall panel heaters, a dehumidifier and extractor fan. The drying room will also be home to our laundry facilities.

> Room 3 – the patio doors connecting our 5 person room to the conservatory will be blocked up.  We think this change will be a big improvement for guests staying in this room in terms of privacy and being able to make better use of the space.

> Bathroom – to provide internal access to the new drying room we are creating a new doorway through the old bathroom. There will be a new separate room with toilet and wash hand basin so we are saying goodbye to the bath as it is literally standing in the way. We know this will be a sad day for some of our regular guests but we feel our other improvements are worth this change.

Q. Are you still open?

A. Yes we are still open for business.  If you have already made a booking don’t worry. The beds you booked and our other facilities will be available during your stay.

There may be times when we have to close some of our bedrooms or the whole hostel for specific works but this will be planned taking account of existing bookings and to minimise disruption. Our booking system will always show our latest availability so you can continue to make online bookings. Or give us a call or send us an email.

Q. Will work be going on when I’m in the hostel?

A. We have planned this work to take place during our quietest period of the year to minimise the intrusion on any guests staying with us. Our builders will be on site from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. We will do our best to plan the works to reduce the impact on you during your stay. Unfortunately there may be times when some noise and disruption will be unavoidable and we appreciate your understanding when this occurs.

Q. Where will I dry my wet outdoor gear?

A. Until the new drying room is ready we have set up a temporary drying room for our guests to use in one of our outbuildings.

Q. Can I still make a whole hostel booking?

A. Once the interior work is completed we will be able to take whole hostel bookings. Please contact us if you are interested in making a booking for your group. If you have already made a whole hostel booking don’t worry. All our facilities and rooms will be available during your stay.

Q. When will the new drying room be ready?

A. We hope that the new drying room will be ready early in 2017. However, at this time of the year, the weather may have other ideas!
